Tekken 6

Tekken 6 looks stunning in motion, with some impressive lighting and fantastic animations springing all 40 playable characters to life on the small screen

Fighters on Sony’s sleek handheld (let alone good ones) have been few and far between over the console’s lifespan, so it’s no surprise to learn that we’re chomping at the bit to get our hands back on Jin Kazama and co. It’s been a good three years since Tekken last punched its way onto PSP in Dark Resurrection, and Namco has made some significant improvements to the fighting formula since then.

For starters, Tekken 6 looks stunning in motion, with some impressive lighting and fantastic animations springing all 40 playable characters to life on the small screen. It also features the majority of the modes features in the high-definition versions, including the usual Arcade and Versus modes, where two players can hook up over a local wireless network and fight it out for the title of the King of Iron Fist! And if you’re really good (or just want to show off your fighting skills), you’ll also be able to upload your ‘Ghost’ to the internet, where others will be able to download a replay of you in action before basking at your insane skills.

The PSP version also includes additional content over the 360/PS3 versions in the form of new arenas and items exclusive to the handheld, with further downloadable content potentially in the pipeline. But even with or without that post-release content, you can rest easy knowing that Tekken 6 will put on a sterling performance on PSP. Its 14 year heritage speaks for itself; Tekken is a series accepted by many as one of the greatest fighters of all time, being technical enough for hardcore fight fans to sink their teeth into, but easy enough for newcomers to have a good bash about on without having to worry about insane combos or counters. Could Tekken 6 take the crown as the best PSP fighter yet? We’ll find out next post.
