Angry Birds: Star Wars strike its way onto consoles

The Angry Birds Empire is preparing to strike again, this time targeting the gaming console, hand in hand in mobile gaming, Activision Blizzard made a move to merge the two forms of gaming today.

Activision announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Activision Publishing has partnered with privately held Rovio Entertainment and Walt Disney’s Lucasfilm to bring Angry Birds Star Wars to the living room.

Angry Birds Star Wars has been downloaded more than 100 million times since its release last year — but only for play on mobile devices. Bringing the game to the gaming console, however, will permit Activision to offer “new levels, features and platform-unique design elements” — and a bigger screen to play them all on. Activision plans to make the new game available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation3, PlayStation Vita, Wii, and Wii U consoles, and — for some reason — also on the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming system.

The company reassures fans of the game that all 200 original Star Wars Angry Birds levels will be playable on the console version, plus 20 new “never-before-seen exclusive levels.” Activision also notes that on its system, Angry Birds Star Wars can be played by two players, cooperatively, or by up to four players, competing against one another.

Looks a bit familiar, but with the Star Wars theme music and friends to play with, it seems like Rovio has a solid plan to invade practically every console out there.
