Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
The 40K license has proven itself in the strategy realm many times over, but Relic want to break new ground by bringing the spectacular and gory series into the third-person shooter genre. As the title suggests, players are in control of an iron-clad Space Marine, whose crash landed on an industrial world overrun by humanity’s most brain-dead enemy, Orcs. It’s up to your trusty chain sword and bolter to take out the meanie greenies, but there will also be plenty of other lethal gear available too.
Melee combat forms a big part of the combative play, and instead of being bogged down behind cover, aggressive gamers will have the opportunity to perform death-defying charges to dislodge enemy campers. The Orcs may not be the most intelligent enemies, often running headfirst into fire, but what they lack in brains they make up in numbers, with tens of foes usually on-screen at once. Other enemy types, like the Eldar, have yet to be confirmed, but their appearance seems likely.
Undoubtedly this is a pretty big step for Relic, but not one that they are taking lightly. This won’t be as deep as their strategy titles, but the action will be even more bloody and thrilling. We can’t wait to see the finished game.
